Hi Val
This is not a science study but I gave up Nectar
feeding years ago for the reason you explain. Subseqently the Noisy Miners
pushed out the Wattlebirds as well as everything else except the Doves and
Blackbirds though, I have seen many a fight between Miner and Blackbird. A group
of 3/5 Miners will attack a Blackbird furiously and almost kill it. I often
think they attack only the young ones. This year has been different. There seem
to be less Miners but coming back are Wattlebirds, Eastern Spinebill,
Pardalote and an occassional visit from a Bronzewing. I,m just loving it. My
garden by the way is a mixture of introduced species, indigenous and local
indigenous. Once something dies I go for more of the latter, regretfully my
neighbours keep lawn deserts.
