We saw the Northern Shoveler
yesterday in the T- Section Lagoons.
It has been moving around – on Thursday we saw it on the most
southerly pond closest to the Point Wilson Road. Yesterday, it was on
the largest and most westerly pond. It was mostly loafing with Australasian Shovelers, but became alert when we approached to around
300 metres. On Thursday it flew
away towards Austin
Road when we
were about 750 metres from it. I
would therefore suggest that you should scan the birds from a distance to find
it and then approach cautiously.
The white breast is very obvious if the bird is facing you in the good
light we have been enjoying, but it can be a bugger if it is facing away from
you.
