Paradise at Dubbo

I have just moved from the village of Wongarbon, 17km east of Dubbo, to a
300 acre property 20km south of Dubbo. The house is a rambling (read
HUUUGE) old homestead situated 2km from the main road (no neighbours!) The
property was conservatively cleared with a wide corridor of old timber
(River Red Gum and Yellow Box) along the creek bordered by White Box on
the slightly higher ground. The house is situated slap bang in the middle
of this corridor. At the front of the property is a another wide corridor
of White Box with yet more White Box at the back of the property and on
the rolling hills just off the driveway. Good timber also exists on the
property bordering the back fence.

I'm still very much in the process of unpacking so I haven't explored the
whole property yet. In the house yard Apostlebirds and Grey-crowned
Babblers are almost constant residents, both being extremely confiding.
Also in the house yard have been Red-browed Finches (rather uncommon out
this way) and Brown Quail. Along the driveway near the creek are Diamond
Firetails and Jacky Winters. From the verandah I have heard Brown
Tree-creeper, Black-chinned Honeyeaters and Barking Owl. Constantly
around the house are Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Galahs, Eastern Rosellas
and Red-rumped Parrots. I fully expect Superb Parrots to move through in
the next couple of months.

Although not seen on the property yet I've seen Square-tailed Kites
between Dubbo and home on two occasions in the last week.

I'm sure as I settle in more goodies will present themselves. Pretty much
as close to paradise as you can get in the central west of NSW.

Cheers

David
