Hi All,

Last Sunday, I took time out from packing up the house and headed for the
You Yangs with Irene from Sydney. As was to be expected the bush was
extremely dry and abundance was down. Fortunately, diversity wasn't with a
total of 45 species for the day. The best birds were Owlet-nightjar, Scarlet
Robin, Painted Button-quail, and Rainbow Bee-eater. Most surprising was afer
leaving the You Yangs, on Granite Rd near the Ford proving ground, we came
across two groups of Zebra Finch, 24 in the first and 8 in the second. The
most I've ever seen together this far south, and certainly the closest i've
ever seen them to the You Yangs. They were sitting preening peacefully in
acacia paradoxia.

Back to poking things into boxes.....

Joy
