There is probably no need to track down the article. A better bet would be Tony Juniper's book Spix's Macaw, which has just been published by 4th Estate. Tony was one of the party of people that found the last living Spix in the caraiba woodlands of north east Brazil in 1990, and his book details the saga of the attempts to save it from extinction. One of the major obstacles remains the problem of disputed ownership of illegally held captive birds.
I'll be reviewing the book for the next issue of Wingspan.
