Sightings

3 November

A Baillon's Crake, 50 White-browed and Masked Woodswallow, but no Little Bitterns were seen at the Wylie Creek wetlands, Cranbourne Botanic Gardens, thanks Paul Peake.

 

2 November

A flock of about 20 White-browed Woodswallows were seen over Kew, thanks Bill Stent.

 

30 October

A White-fronted Honeyeater calling and feeding in a flowering eucalypt in Hamilton, thanks Rob Drummond

 

29 October

A single male Satin Flycatcher seen in the lower canopy of a Swamp Gum, Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve, thanks Paul Hackett

 

29 October

A pair of Orange Chats on a track going through the middle of a canola crop that was in full flower (and irrigated). Heaps of White-fronted Chats as well, on a property 10km south of Serpentine in north central Vic (40 km north of Bendigo), thanks Roger Standen.

 

29 October

5 Crested Pigeons were seen on the Island at Albert Park Lake, thanks Stuart Maxwell.

 

28 October

3 White-headed Pigeons flew into a large Eucalypt over a patch of Rainforest on the Dowell Creek Arm of the bottom Lake at Mallacoota, thanks Raymond White.

 

28 October

4 male 2 female Scarlet Honeyeaters actively feeding in callistemon at Badger Creek Caravan and Holiday Park, Don Road, Healesville, thanks Peter Bright.

 

27 October

A Sacred Kingfisher sitting calling in a Plane tree on the southern bank of the Yarra near the skateboard park just upriver of the rowing clubs opposite the newly opened Federation Square, thanks Richard Nowotny

 

26 October

2 Black Kites were seen just north-east of Smythesdale (approx 130 km west of Melbourne) above the Glenelg Highway, thanks Alan Flack.

 

26 October

A Clamorous Reed-warbler was seen on the Yarra River, beside Finders St Station, 40m downstream from the pedestrian arched bridge, thanks Alan Clarke.

 

26 October

A Scarlet Honeyeater was seen in a suburban garden in Marlo, thanks Len Axen.

 

26 October

2 Spotted Harriers were seen low over grassland near the Corner of Blairs Road and Peak School Road, west of the You Yangs and 1 in Werribee, at the back of the Austin Road Ponds, thanks Paul Hackett.

 

21 October

A Little Bittern was seen at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens, on the southern side at the Wylies Creek wetlands; at the western end of the middle lake near the big artificial rocks, thanks Aidan Sudbury.

 

15 September

An adult male Brahminy Kite was seen at Mallacoota, thanks Mike Carter

 

Early September

A Grass Owl was seen regularly on private property in western Victoria near the coast, thanks Mike Carter


Updates


Hundreds of White-browed and tens of Masked Woodswallows are still present (Sat 2 Nov) in the paddock to the south of Toynes Road (eastern side of the You Yangs). Also in the same paddock were Diamond Firetail and Pallid Cuckoo, thanks Richard Nowotny

 

The Baillon's Crake is still visible at Westgate Park and was most recently seen on Tuesday, thanks Richard Nowotny

 

200 Freckled Ducks seen loafing on N-W corner of lake. They have been here for months now at Lake Lorne, Drysdale. GPS 38-10-54 144-33-23, thanks Peter Bright.
