Hi everyone
It's about time I sent a reminder about what to do - and what not to do - on
this mailing list. The discussions and often heated replies of the last week
have resulted in one thing at least: we now have less subscribed members than
at any other time over the last 5 years: 424 when I checked a few minutes ago.
It usually sits between 450 and 500.
By the way - this figure includes a few duplicates, and there are also people
who just subscribe to send messages, and unknown others who only read via the
archive or one of the online mailing list portals.
I should also add that some of those accused most often of misusing the list
usually conduct their off-topic rants on another, private, forum. I know,
because they often include me in it. Some of it is very funny, but most gets
deleted very quickly. But at least it doesn't get sent to the list, and I'm
grateful for this.
So here we go:
Birding-Aus is a forum for discussion of issues to do with Australian Wild
Birds. That can include a fairly broad range of topics if you think about it.
Note point 6 .
Messages sent to the Birding-Aus mailing list SHOULD NOT:
1. be of a purely commercial nature
2. contain offensive or inappropriate language
3. contain attachments of any sort
4. exceed 20Kb in size
5. include all of the original message if replying (use only
what's needed for clarity)
6. stray too far from our main topics: Australian birds, their
habitat & conservation
7. contain any sort of personal attacks or statements that could
be considered defamatory
Mail for the whole list should be sent to
List commands (subscribe/unsubscribe/who, etc) should be sent to
Thank you to those who defended the main purpose of the list, but lets get back
to real bird information now!
Thanks
Russell
