While out birding this afternoon, I saw a large flock of Silvereyes feeding busily on the ground, which I hadn't noticed before. The ground was arid and sandy, with a sparse covering of desiccated flat weeds such as capeweed. I couldn't see anything on the plants apart from a few ants, but they found it attractive and productive enough to virtually ignore me as I walked past. Duncan Fraser.
