G'day birding-aussers,

Just a summary of some weekend observations from northern Victoria (from
Roger Standen and my partner and I) that might be of interest.

Painted Honeyeater - 1 bird heard calling (99% certain) at Bendigo Sewage
Farm.

Marsh & Sharp-tailed SPs at Bendigo Sewage Farm

Whiskered Terns (about 30) at Bendigo Sewage Farm

Brolgas (total of 28) came in to roost at Winghee Swamp, north of Bendigo.
My partner and I watched the sunset from the bank of the swamp (and waited
for any unsuspecting snipe, crake or rail to emerge from the reeds and get
sprung!), and while doing so, the Brolgas came in pair by pair. The
atmosphere was just sensational - one would think we'd arrived at Kakadu,
as the birds called and carried-on.

Banded Lapwing (5 adults and one fluffy chick) on the (parched!) Terrick
Terrick plains.

Black Honeyeater (a pair) at Mount Terrick Terrick (some Grey Mistletoe
flowering on the Deane's Wattle).

Swift Parrots (5) at my home in Altona North, yesterday afternoon.

As others have reported, conditions are extremely dry in northern Victoria,
but the area is still an exciting prospect for birders at a time when
almost anything could turn up.

Regards,

Chris
