16 km E of West Wyalong on Newell Hwy take unnamed road to south (on your left if heading to WW from Forbes). Drive down road 400 metres and see a small dam on your right. Yesterday (6.10.02) this area was alive with honeyeaters in the flowering mistletoe including 10 Painted, 10 Black and two male and one female Pied Honeyeaters. The Pieds were not display flighting or singing and were typically quite elusive. Also present were White-fronted, Brown-headed and Singing Honeyeaters. Very lively enjoyable birding site. At Gum Swamp (5 km W Forbes) on the same day were 5 Freckled Duck. Near Goolagong (between Cowra and Forbes) were several Superb Parrots.
