A long day out on Saturday (5/10) with various visitors to Melbourne (Jean-Phillipe and Valerie Paris from France; Jay and Barbara Hudson, Brian McKnight and Alan Grenon from the US) included stops at Westgate Park (10 mins from the centre of the city, Baillon's Crake, Black-tailed Native Hen, Little Grassbird, Clamorous Reed Warbler), the You Yangs (main entrance, Tawny Frogmouth & Purple-crowned Lorikeet; the Western section/Hovell's Creek, White-browed Woodswallow, Diamond Firetail, Black Falcon, Little Eagle, 6 honeyeater species) and the Western Treatment Plant (Australian Crake, Banded Lapwing, Banded Stilt, Freckled Duck, 6 species of migratory wader/shorebird, etc, etc).  A day total of 120 species (including 3 cuckoos) was a good return.       Richard Nowotny
