G'day,

Local folk have shown more interest in the Roseate Terns on Bribie Island
than anything else, and I've said that I'd report back. There were
certainly 2, probably 4 and possibly 6 at Buckley's Hole on Friday afternoon
(25/10). Look for an elegant pale tern with a distinctive bill shape, and
long tail streamers in the adults. I would strongly recommend a telescope
otherwise you'll come away with a puzzle rather than satisfaction. 6 X
binoculars just won't hack it. Note that there are some interesting-looking
Common Terns with a fair amount of greyish smudging on the underparts, but
all with black bills. Plus a few White-winged Black Terns. As I write it's
chucking it down with rain, so Buckley's Hole may now hold a little more
water.

Please don't reply to me as I'll be unable to answer any queries for a
while - I'm off to see a Light-mantled Sooty Albatross.

Must rush - Trevor.
