Arrival of Oriental Plovers

Hi all
About 15-20 Oriental Plovers turned up on the reef at Nightcliff, 
suburban Darwin, at the weekend, most in some degree of 
breeding plumage. Presumably they were just newly arrived, since 
none had been seen there in previous visits very recently. Oriental 
Plovers tend to arrive at the same place each year, then after a 
short period on the reef and mudflat (sometimes days, sometimes 
weeks) they move to grassland areas away from the shore. The 
last couple of years have been pretty poor for them, so hopefully 
this year will have greater numbers.
