Hi Birders,
Laurie Knight raised the matter of the arrival times of Latham's Snipe as he had seen one on the 3rd August, a very early date. Looking back over the records of the NSWFOC (now Birding NSW)  for the past 30 years, it is possible to say that by about 15 August, birds have been rep[orted from a number of sites. So that the average first arrival date is maybe about 8 August, but by 15 August, generally several have been reported. The earliest date I can find is one at Fivebough Swamp, Leeton, seen by Keith Hutton on 1 August 1992.

Sharp-tailed Sandpipers generally arrive about 20 August, but today I saw my first arrival at the tidal Cockle Bay Wetlands, Brisbane Water near Empire Bay, an early date.
