" The water level in Eve St continues far too high and has many less water
birds compared with 6 or more years ago. I wonder what the intentions for it
are now? It certainly is no good for migratory waders."

The Eve Street Wetland is in Rockdale, just south of the Sydney Airport. It
is owned by Sydney Water, as a major sewer main goes through it. This has
been a little bit of saltmarsh habitat that has become quite rare around
Sydney. Over the years, this very small wetland has been the subject of
numerous threats including proposals to fill it in, build motorways through
it, and drain it. Sadly, the previous channel that provided tidal flow from
Botany Bay now has in it the massive footings of a support of the new RTA

As another of Eve Street's past defenders, I phoned Sydney Water and found
that Layla McNeil (Sydney Water's Rockdale Office) is currently finalising a
plan of management with the objectives of reinstating the saltmarsh mud
flats and the ebb and flow of saltwater which comes up the channel from
Botany Bay. I don't suppose that anything will happen in time for this
year's return of migratory waders, though.

Layla said that she would welcome any comments by birders, preferably in the
next month. Her email is
