If you are a member of Birds Australia, you will recently have received notice of an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on 25th May. This EGM is to vote on three resolutions.

I ask that you read these three resolutions closely and vote on them. Vote by proxy if you cannot attend. Two of the resolutions are self evident, but the other resolution (Resolution 1) worries me greatly. I don't think that the implications and the wording of this resolution have been fully thought through, and I don't consider that there is enough supporting notes to agree to this resolution which refers to the regional groups of BA. I understand the reasons behind having a resolution about the regional groups but not what is contained in this resolution as it stands. 13.7 in particular is of serious concern.

Regional groups have been treated harshly recently with issues such as their grants being reduced from 15% to 7.5% of the membership fee. This is having an impact on the WA group. There are restrictions also on what grants can be applied for, etc although these have yet to have an adverse impact on WA.

I would ask that Resolution 1 is withdrawn from the meeting and further thought and consultation be given to it. Failing that I ask that you *** VOTE AGAINST RESOLUTION 1 ***
