Byron Bay - Ballina

Hi
        I am planning on 'exploring' the stretch of coast from Byron Bay to
Ballina and immediate hinterland on the upcoming long weekend - will be
based at Brunswick Hds.  
        Anyone out there have any intimate knowledge of this area? I am
already fairly familiar with areas North of, and immediately around,
Brunswick Hds (ie Hastings pt, Nightcap NP, Pottsville, Tyagarah etc) but
not south.
 For example, I see on the map there is a reserve just north of Ballina - is
it worth a visit???
