G'day All,

Could someone tell me why I should be worried? a
little apprehensive? about the press release below? ah
perhaps it's just those Flickers that try to drill
into Hilary's head in the USA :^D that worry about
their trees, our trees, I wonder how they ever got
that name? they are true wood peckers after all?

TAX BREAKS FOR FOREST INVESTMENT

The Federal Government has passed new laws to meet its
election commitment to reinstate tax breaks for
forestry investment. The Federal Minister for
Forestry and Conservation, Senator Ian McDonald, said
the laws, which allow investors in woodlots to claim
deductions up to a year in advance of the funds being
spent by plantation managers, will apply to
expenditure made on or after October 2, 2001.

The new rules allow investors in woodlots to sign up
any time on or before June 30 and claim an immediate
tax deduction for activities done by the plantation
managers before the end of the following financial
year.

In other news for the forestry industry, an Australian
Forests Standard is to be developed by mid-year
providing a basis for forest owners and managers
to demonstrate the sustainability of their management
through voluntary third-party certification of forest management.
