Road safety is something we all want, but governments increasingly ignore the
statistical facts and focus on the most lucrative measures. Because of the
intense government sponsored advertising, most people would be surprised to
learn speed is responsible for less than 5% of crashes.
To support the irrational push to target speed at the expense of other more
beneficial measures we even have researchers claiming that if you drive at
70km/hr on a 60 zone it's the same as driving with twice the legal blood
alcohol limit! (0.10 BAC) Does anybody believe this?
In South Australia, both major parties have agreed to introduce demerit points
for speed camera offences. In other states this has led to an 800% increase in
unlicenced driving in the past five years as ever greedy governments increase
the number of speed cameras.
As a motorist you don't need to be reminded that things are getting steadily
worse.
Consider a protest vote in the upcoming state election.
