Hi there birders,

I saw the movie Lord of the Rings last Friday. Great yarn.

Really magnificent scenery - makes one want to jump on a plane a see New
Zealand first hand. (It was filmed in NZ)

During the film I was aware of a few bird calls but not being very familiar
with NZ birds the calls meant little to me.

About halfway through however, I clearly heard the call of 2 Masked
Lapwings.

As far as I can recall the only birds actually shown on the film were a
large flock of ravens.

BTW, don't take your children to see Lord of the Rings unless they can cope
with horror and violence. I do not consider this a film suitable for
children. It is very dark for most of it, with much violence. Still a good
yarn however.

Happy birding,

Trevor Hampel
