On a recent trip I heard two nightjars calling.  The more distant did the first few slow notes(caw-caw-caw), then the other joined in for the second rapid part of the call (tukka-tukka-tukka-tukka-tuk).  I have used Pizzey's representation of the call.  They repeated this many times.

Does anyone know if this is  a pair bonding, or two birds defending their territories?
