Re Twitchathons?

Maybe three separate classes should be considered.

National class: A judging panel would be needed. A handicapped event
where zone adjustments are decided by the panel prior to an event. The
zone rule should restrict competitors to within say a 500 km radius. A
formula for applying zone adjustments would need to be developed. The
formula would need to consider known species diversity occurring within
a zone and also include a factor for reasonable sighting frequency
factor (excluding most vagrants from the formula). The sighting of
rarities would then be a bonus.

Sate/Territory class: Ground travel only within boundaries. Each
state/territory has a competition. This should be a continuation of the
current event.

Outright class: Most species recorded over 24 hours wins. Few rules and
restrictions.

Before somebody takes me to task and asks me to objectively define a
"vagrant" and "reasonable sighting frequency", who wants to be a judge?
