Hi all,

I checked out Banyule Wetland (Melb, Vic) for the Painted Snipe last night - no
luck on that front. On the way out I decided to have look at the ducks and to
my surprise there was two Pink-eared Duck paddling around the middle! This is
certainly the first time I've seen them here - and I haven't heard of any other
records. Any history of this bird here?

In regards to the Snipe - I used the old fashioned method of observation: I
rambled up the full length of the swamp attempting to flush the bird. Apart
from getting muddy feet, I succeeded in alighting 7 or 8 Japanese Snipe but no
Painted.

Also present at Banyule were Buff-banded Rail, Cattle and Little Egret,
Golden-headed Cisticola, Pied Stilt, Little Pied Cormorant and Black-fronted
Dotteral.

Kind regards,

Tim
