Hello Paul,

The most tree friendly way of supporting Nest boxes I have come across
is that used by Alan Franks (Hollow Log Homes) in SE Qld.

He uses a piece of strong clothes line type galvanised wire running
through the box around the trunk and looped over a branch on the far
side of the tree.

Two holes need to be drilled in the sides of the box near the join with
the back. He puts a piece of old plastic hose (green of course) over
the wire to stop it rubbing into the tree and leaves plenty of slack int
he loop around the tree to allow for growth. Hope this helps.
