Jon,
There could be any number of reasons why a submission has not been put
before the committee regarding the recent claims of Long-tailed Koel. Lack
of conclusive evidence and potential confusion with young Koel being the
most likely. Very few people actually take notes in the field these days
and this would be a particularly difficult species to observe well or
photograph as they are not normally a very approachable species.
Anyway, just confirming that there are to date NO confirmed records for
mainland Australia. Certainly, none have been accepted by BARC. We would
of welcome a submission - any offers?
Regards
Tony

P.S. Sorry I am a little behind updating the website.
My question is why wasn't such an important sighting lodged with Birds Aust.
Rarities Committee or a Rare Bird Report submitted to QOSI?
I cannot find any evidence of these reported sightings ever being lodged.
With the bird reported at Townsville as being placed in the hands of a
wildlife carer were any photographs or descriptions taken to support the
sighting.?
