Hello All
A couple of issues:

As some of you know I'm on a website for natural history and cultural
tourism called Earthfoot. There are about 135 hosts, some of us birding
guides, in 44 countries.

Last week Jim Conrad the director received notification from the United
Nations (Department
of Social and Economic Affairs, Division for Sustainable Development,
Small Island Developing States Unit) that EarthFoot will be featured on
their website as an "Ecotourism Success Story." Once the page is online
it will be available at www.sidsnet.org, at the link "SIDS Ecotourism
Success Stories." As my site I'm told, receives more hits than most there
is a good chance that Australian and Top End birds will be highlighted.

Consequently I want to write an article highlighting the role that
birdwatching can play in channeling income to indigenous people (I've
seen how it can work among my own relatives for instance). I have a few
statistics on American and British birders, my postgrad. sociological
research on a related topic (now a few years old), and my own experiences
over twenty years, but would be most grateful for URLS of websites that
might help or any other information.

2. Niven, I tried to email you on a number of occasions unsucessfully.
In reply to your suggestion that I confused Brown Falcon with Grey Falcon
- the latter is a bird I know reasonably well, having spent some months
as a biological consultant in the Victoria River region, and a couple of
years doing similar work in the vicinity of Fountainhead, Douglas River
and Mt Todd.

At the first site my field assistants and I saw this species almost daily
often at very close quarters, and I saw it quite often at the other sites
as well.
