Circa 1989, the mallards and hybrid ducks at the Botanical Gardens in Adelaide were destroyed.

There was an outcry when it became public knowledge after the job had been done. Some people were indignant that the (already dead) "poor ducks" were going to be given to the Zoo to feed their animals. The ducks ended up being buried instead.
