Howdy All
Just a quick note to remind everyone that I am still very keen to hear of
Banded Stilt sightings. I have gleaned some interesting information off this
forum over past few days re: stilts arriving on wetlands around
Melb/Geelong. The 8,000 Banded Stilts that were on the ETSA Ponds at Port
Augusta for past few months have now all but gone. About 500 remain. The
rest departed about mid May onwards. I was interested that stilts turned up
in Melb area soon afterwards. Have the birds departed from the Wimmera Lakes
as well? I need to check Lake Eyre again shortly to see if there are any
BStilts up there. I doubt it as Lake Eyre North has very little water in it.
However the shallows that are there are currently around Hughes and Dulhunty
Islands and have prompted some bird breeding activity to occur. I look
forward to hearing from people re: stilts. Thankyou.
By the way, there have been exciting observations of Red-winged Parrots in
both Witjira NP and Innamincka RR of our Desert Parks Region. Observations
have occurred from Sept 2000 to the present. These are the first SA
sightings of this species for many years.
