The Tweed Bird Observers Group I think would be your best contact . They are based at Murwillumbah , and have monthly meetings and outings . Phone Andy Reimanis on 02 6677 9009 who will welcome your enquiry , and give you more details .
As far as I know there are not any groups in Byron Bay  at present .
