G'day to all,
I live in the China Town area of Broome across the road
from the Mangrove lined, sandy shores of Dampier Creek, which runs into
Roebuck Bay.
In a flock of Bar-shouldered Doves (Geopelia humeralis) that were feeding in
my garden yesterday, a positive standout was one which was almost completely
lacking in any colour other than black in its plumage, apart from the legs
and feet which were a normal reddish colour, the eye ring however was a
whitish grey.
Have there been any other instances of melanism in B/S Doves that have been
seen. I know there was a brown Morph B/S Doves in Derby a few years ago,
(which I stumbled upon by accident), I found out later that they were well
known in the area, but I have never seen a completely black one before.
