Dear birding-aussers
A nice sight on Sunday was a party of 11 Grey-tailed Tattlers tootling
along the sandy beach as the tide was receding, between Kurnell and Bonna
Point (just south of Sydney Airport) at about 11 am. Another GTT was
sitting by itself on one of the groynes. Don't often see that many in one
group so close to fishermen and houses.
Also at the newly reconstructed Metromix wetland (now an RTA sponsored
site) near the Crunulla Football ground, a pair of Pied Oyster-catchers was
checking out the newly created low tide mud and reed areas, plus two
over-wintering Bar-tailed Godwits. An indication that this site is
beginning to attract a wider range of birds?
I hope the RTA will remember to put up a sign at Eve Street Rockdale to
tell the migratory birds that they should fly south to Cronulla now that
the Eve St site has been wrecked with the motorway extensions.
