I am just back from 10 days birding in Assam, six at Kaziranga and three at
Nameri NP on my own, and then three weeks with Birdquest in Bhutan.
Some highlights: at Kaziranga, 3 male Bengal Floricans fighting in my scope
( a male Pied Harrier flew through the top of the image while I was
watching); extendes views of 2 Black-chested Parrotbills and 1 Jerdon's
Babbler; 3 male Jerdon's Bushchat. At Nameri, 2 White-winged Wood Ducks
flying not more than 30 feet in front of me (plus another more distant
flying up the river).
In Bhutan highlights included Tawny Fish-Owl, 2 Wedge-billed Wren Babblers,
a very cooperative Bar-winged Wren-Babbler, 2 male Himalayan Monals, Great
Parrotbills going beserk overhead, and of course the Raspberry Fool
himself, Ward's Trogon. Many thanks to Dave Farrow for a great trip. I'll
be doing a complete report with numbers for each species and precise
localities. If you'd like a copy, let me know.
