A somewhat belated and brief report of 3 days light birding in
and around Armidale over Easter. Visited Dangar's Lagoon, as well as day trips
to Cathedral Rocks NP, Ebor Falls, New England NP, and parts of Oxley Wild
Rivers NP.A total of 55 species with not much effort.
Highlights were Red-browed Treecreepers in Cathedral
Rocks NP on Warrigal Trail at Wild Dog Campground, and also on track around
Cathedral Rock. They were in company with White-throated Treecreepers, allowing
good and easy comparison of discerning features. Also a couple of male Flame
Robin (great thrill for a Queenslander) and a female Rose Robin.
Danger's Lagoon at Urella provided all three grebes as
well as shoveller, Musk Duck, and great views of a Peregrine, both perched and
flying (though not hunting). A number of great campsites identified for a
future, lengthier stay in the Spring.
