I called by that way in July 1999 and had an excellent view of a Pilot-bird a bit closer to Marlo, down near the edge of one of the lagoons four or five km east of Marlo on the Cape Conran road.  I heard the call first and tracked it down to get great looks from less than five metres - the light chestnut face was very clear.  A great little bird, and not one I see very often.  I was at the Cape Conran boat ramp a couple of weeks back, but didn't hear any Pilot-birds on that occasion.
