Azure Kingfisher, Ivanhoe, Vic.

This morning I was walking on the Yarra bank at Wilson Reserve, Ivanhoe,
about 9.20 am (Summer Time). I saw an Azure Kingfisher fly into a willow
growing low down on the bank below the path at the Big Bend, sit for a
few minutes bobbing its head up and down, then fly low across the water
to some more willows a little downstream. A well-marked bird with large
white marks on the nape - vivid Reckitts Blue above and tan beneath.

Later, about 10 am, I also saw a male Common Bronzewing on the grass
between the west end of the Oval and the Reedbed. It's great to see how
they have returned to the suburbs now that the wattle plantings are
maturing.
