Yep, just as I thought, see:

http://www.consumer.qld.gov.au/scripts/scams.exe

"NIGERIAN SCAM

The Nigerian Letter scam appears regularly throughout the State in
various forms.

The letter's author generally claims to be representing a government
department or business corporation, which has substantial sums of money,
trapped in overseas bank accounts.

The author claims the need for assistance to release funds for a
secret business transaction. The letters usually ask recipients to help
transfer large amounts of money out of Nigeria. The recipient is asked
to provide certain personal details.

People who respond are induced to pay upfront fees and taxes and that
is the last they see of their money.

Once consumers engage in activities with overseas agencies they have
moved outside the jurisdiction of Queensland consumer protection laws.

The Office of Fair Trading will continue to work with overseas
consumer protection agencies in a bid to prevent international swindlers
from targeting Queensland consumers."
