Hi Bill

That might be correct if taste buds were only found on the tongue, but
that's not the case in birds!

Not many birds have been studied, but in the Mallard for example, there
are NO taste buds on the tongue but they occur on two sites near the tip
of the upper and lower bill, on the roof of the mouth (oropharynx) and
around the choanal opening (further back in the oropharynx).

Birds are full of surprises

Cheers

Pete
