G'day All,
I just can't sit by and let this one go without
voicing my strongest condemnation for those that wish
to kill a bird. Are we or are we NOT talking about a
single solitary bird here or what? a single solitary
"House Crow" ... Should I tell the world we have a
"House Crow" invasion by at least 20 or 30 occuring at
Phillip Island? I've got a much better idea lets kill
ALL introduced humans and offspring thereof that would
straighten out poor olde sad stuffed up
environmentally Oz eh?

It is one solitary bird after all that stands little
chance of mating? or multiplying with a mate? right?

How old is this "House Crow"?

Does it have it within it's actual self to multiply?

NOT ALL OZ BIRDS DO OR CAN multiply? because of mans
actions no matter how natural you may all think the
bird multiplication act is. IT HAS TOO BE PERFECT FOR
them or guess what folks? The House Crow found the
right land sad it hasn't found the right humanoids
living on the commonwealth of it ...... When we have
finally wrecked this planet as we hurtle down that
path at breakneck speed would it not be good to have
another message in our heads? instead of this kill it,
kill it, mentality? who knows what Colombo was ONCE
connected to
in the way of land mass? many man years ago.

Thank you Martin for the below. Perhaps Ignorant
purists are the dangerous mob and should be ....

>From a Disgusted John A. Gamblin wondering why many
call themselves world wide environmentalists, or
Australians that care for birds. If it is really is a
major concern for the purists? I suggest they should
fork out all costs involved for it's return to
Colombo.

Further to Tony's comments on destruction of House
Crows in Australia. Long's (1981) Introduced Birds of
the World gives the following account (in part) for
the species in Australia:

'...(the species) do not appear to have gained a
permanent foothold in either WA or Victoria, where
they have often been recorded.

Point one NOT ESTABLISHED .....

(the following dates are given)

May 1959 - 3 birds flew ashore into Geelong from the
(Colombo) merchant vessel Tavince March 1963 - single
bird sighted sw of Melbourne. A considearble number of
House Crows have arrived in WA since 1926 ... and the
authorities destroyed at least 30 birds ...

POINT two FINE that is a number to cause alarm bells
anywhere on planet earth ...

They are a useful scavenger (in India)

Should we let the Oz purists know what they do
scavenge?

but also attack small birds and eat their eggs ...(the
species also) raid crops and cause severe damage to
fruit in orchards.

POINT three STRANGE I thought some Oz birds do that as
also? man changing the Oz environment.

(They are known to) ... fly in and out of houses
without restraint and pilfer anything edible.

In Colombo eh? or are we referring to Oz humans here?
:-]

No opinions or other reasons are given for destroying
the species.

As usual .....
