Mike

You might start to get wary of our recent spate of reports, but we have had another interesting sighting.  We were visiting friends who have a sizable rural property at Tonimbuk in West Gippsland, VIC. about 25km East of Gembrook and just outside the South edge of the Bunyip State Park/Forest.  On Sat morning, 27th Jan, about 0930, we saw a large flock of WT Needletails quite high above us.  Height was such that we could only just make a few out with the naked eye, but binocs & then telescope revealed approx. 200 - 300 birds.  Only ID was by behaviour, wing and tail shape.  Too distant to check for any stray alternative species and they were heading away from us all the time.  They were heading from North West to South East.

I recall you have had a few reports from Mt Beenak Fire Tower - which would be about 20 - 25 kms almost due North of our sighting.  We had hot sultry weather leading up to a storm on Fri evening, but Saturday was clear and humidity had dropped.

Regards
Bob Cook
