Eileen and I found one Painted Snipe at Lake Dyer this-afternoon, with a
couple of Great-crested Grebes on a connecting backwater and a party of
eight Sharp-tailed Sandpipers.
I've just put a not very close photo of yesterday's two Painted Snipe onto
the Abberton website: http://www.abberton.org . There are two other shots
from Lake Dyer - some Pink-eared Duck and a Golden-headed Cisticola. All of
the images are thumb-nailed, so please click for a better view. I've also
included the Tawny Frogmouth who dropped onto the verandah around 10.30pm
the other night, as well as some other bits and pieces.
We wandered in and out of all sort of inlets and backwaters around the
entire perimeter of Lake Dyer this-afternoon, secretly hoping to find some
hitherto hidden-away breeding colony of Painted Snipe, but then I'm one of
those people who firmly believes anew that I'm going to win Lotto as each
and every Saturday night comes round.....
In the event that I do, I'll let you know.
I'm talking about the snipe of course.
