Report of Dunnalley pelagic trip on 10 January 2001
Group seabird excursion on "Pauletta"; people on board: Jo Weinecke, Rohan
Clarke and Rebecca, Ken Cross, his mother and father and brother, Dennis
Abbott, Tim Reid, plus an English couple and two men, the name of whom
escapes me.
Weather: Fine and sunny (~0/8 cloud). Wind NE force 5-6. Sea F4 with 2m
swell from NE rising to 2-3m.
Sea temps 17.3-17.6oC (CSIRO sattellite map gave temperatures of 18.4oC in
the area).
Departed Dunnalley jetty 0810, through Marion Narrows at 0835. Reached
shelf at 1100 at 42o49'S 148o19'E. Surfed in through Marion Narrows at 1530
(that was fun!). Returned to Dunnalley jetty at 1600.
Many Short-tailed Shearwaters seen, low numbers of albatrosses recorded.
Most birds apart from the Procellarias didn't seem very co-operative and
were not highly interested in the vessel.
