I have a pair of (East German) Carl Zeiss 10x40 Notarem bins which appear to
have fungal growth internally on one side. I only noticed this when I
used the
bins as a microscope (ie. back to front) yesterday.
Has anyone had a similar lense growth problem and if so, are these things
repairable?
Please advise me directly so we can have more bird postings. I'm hoping
to not
have to throw the bins out!
Yes, they can be repaired. I had mould in a pair of binoculars and somebody
suggested the Camera Clinic in Collingwood (inner suburb of Melbourne). The
technician said they couldn't absolutely guarantee the mould wouldn't grow
back, but they cleaned them very thoroughly and the binoculars have worked
fine ever since. I was very happy with their service. Phone 03 9419 5247.
