G,day all,

You may remember seeing, a little over a week ago, my posting of results from a field outing to Phillip Island, Victoria.  During that visit, the tide was low and the waders way out to glory, and the ole 8x30 Swarovski's were not much use on that occasion (no Dave, you are not getting them!).  It was hopeless scopeless!  I still did manage a fair list however, and I obtained a couple of species new to me.

Upon posting that initial report, I had some sound advice from John Boyce to re-visit the same spot at high tide, as numerous birds of several species roost at the end of the sandy point, which I now know to be Observation Point (many thanks John).

I re-visited Observation Point, equipped with a borrowed scope (many thanks Jim), on Saturday morning, the 6 th January.  I used the tidal predictions listed on the Bureau of Meteorology web-site for high tide times.  A birdlist follows, of which three species were new to me (highlighted):

Bar-tailed Godwit (c. 450)
Pied Oystercatcher (15)
Sooty Oystercatcher (1)
Curlew Sandpiper (30)
Sanderling (2)
Sharp-tailed Sandpiper (1)
Pacific Gull (6)
Silver Gull (50)
Caspian Tern (8)
Crested Tern (44)
Pelican (8)
Black Swan (30)
Red Knot (30)
Great Knot (6)
Eastern Curlew (43)
Whimbrel (28)

Bye for now.
