They are probably the third most commonly-kept
species of pet bird. So escapers/releasees are common in cities.

  Hi all,
A most unusual sighting for me
this morning around 8:15, while driving along Dunne street in Kingsbury
(Melb suburb) apart from the usual Sulfhur-Crested Cockatoos--- a
Cockatiel!!! perched on powerlines.Probably an escapee, but who knows?
    any thoughts?
  Cheers,
  mark Kliene.
