Annie and I have just returned from a 3 week holiday spent mostly in South
Australia. Three days were spent at Gluepot Reserve. We couldn't get over
how good the reserve was. There were birds everywhere. So many of them
too. We saw 4 Striated Grasswrens hopping along the second spinifex sand
dune beside the road and then a pair of White-browed Treecreepers on our way
to the well set out Babbler Camp site. Here we met Chris, the first of many
fellow birders who read Birding-Aus. Also here were David & Maureen, Rob &
Liz, Dennis from Tassie and later Rick from another camp. We also met the
volunteer ranger Pascale Michel. All excellent people so keen to pass on
the info of where to see what.

The park had Pied, White-fronted & Black honeyeaters in abundance, Orange,
Crimson & White-fronted Chats, Cinnamon Quail-thrush walking the roads, I
saw Red-lored Whistler at two locations and heard it at 5.30am near our tent
at Babbler Camp. Gilbert Whistlers are an easy bird to see at Gluepot as
were Black-eared Cuckoos.

We saw about 80 species in the 3 days we spent but several of us were
together when Chris saw his 100th species for Gluepot, a Mallee Fowl on the
mound. We saw black-eared Miners too although I can't tick it apparently as
it has been lumped! Boo!

Well done Birds Australia.
