Robert,

As far as anyone is aware, there is at least 1 SIPO
still present at Manly Boat Harbour roost, Brisbane on
high tides only. There are reports of up to six at
Patch's Beach, south of Ballina, leading to
speculation that breeding activity took place over the
summer. The way to get to Patchs Beach is via Boundary
Creek road just north of the town of Broadwater. Park
at the end of the road, walk to the beach then head
northwards. It's about a 45 minute walk to the main
Oystercatcher roost - you should be able to see the
flock from a distance - but of course there are birds
scattered up and down the beach and you should check
them all out. In this case low tides are best as the
birds move up into the dunes as the water rises. Of
course, weekdays are more civilised but the birds have
seemingly coped well with the hordes for some time
now.

The same cannot be said for Red Goshawk, which remains
vulnerable to egg collectors here and overseas. There
is good reason for keeping some information quiet -
some people simply don't know when to shut up, and
thus information falls into the wrong hands. Those
that remain oblivious to this problem are unlikely to
be privileged with sensitive information any time
soon.

Cheers

AS
