Years ago at O'Reilly's Bird Week we all used to get up well before dawn and
record all the birds heard before sunrise. This crazy idea was started by the
late Roy Wheller. 1st bird to call was Eastern Yellow Robin with his cheep,
cheep, cheep. I am sure that is your bird.

I am hearing a pre-dawn, pre kookaburra call which eludes me. A single
repeated note, rather like a strong chicken cheep, in sets of either two or
three notes, with gap of maybe 5-10 seconds between sets.Only lasts 10-15
mins., always finishes before dawn.
My best guess is Eastern Whipbird, as the call has some familiarity with
the female reply to the male's whip.Maria's guess is either Grey Shrike Thrush
or Eastern Yellow Robin. Any takers?
