Andrew and Tom's reports of white-throated leave me
jealous!I'll gladly swap my regular boobook, barn owl, and tawny frogmouth night
chorus for one certain sighting or hearing of the nightjar. As I'm half-way
between Andrew and Tom as the crow flies, perhaps I'll get them in
stereo!!
I am hearing a pre-dawn, pre kookaburra call which
eludes me. A single repeated note, rather like a strong chicken cheep, in sets
of either two or three notes, with gap of maybe 5-10 seconds between sets.Only
lasts 10-15 mins., always finishes before dawn.
My best guess is Eastern
Whipbird, as the call has some familiarity with the female reply to the male's
whip.Maria's guess is either Grey Shrike Thrush or Eastern Yellow Robin. Any
takers?
