There's a good article on anting in "A New Dictionary of Birds" edited by A Landsborough Thomson, Nelson. My copy was published in '64 so it's not all that new now. I don't know if there is a later edition - someone on birding-aus may be able to tell us.
Unfortunately the article is a bit long for me to type out for you, and I don't have a scanner. Try your local library and if you can't get it send me your postal address and I'll make a photo-copy for you.
