Southern Emuwrens are distributed widely along the border in open forests with damp shrubberies and tussuck grasses (especially Sorghum leiocladum).  My records near the area described by Laurie include Mt Clunie and Beaury State Forests (several sites each SF) since 1980 and Wilson's Peak in 1984.
In one instance just north of Mt Clunie in 1994 the birds were tickable in Qld.  Elsewhere in the State they are reliable at Cooloola NP.
In the New England Tablelands of NE NSW they are present in the Tenterfield district as well as Gibraltar Range.  I've seen them at high elevations also at Mt Boss near Wauchope.
